WARNING: Steam
heat is hotter than 212F (boiling water) and increases in
temperature as pressure increases. See the steam safety information
section.
WARNING:
Exposure to steam is hazardous. If not properly controlled, steam
can cause property damage, serious bodily injury, or death. In
order to avoid property damage, serious injury, or death, you
must select the proper steam hose for the given application.
Also, proper installation, usage, and maintenance of the steam
hose you select will contribute to increased operator safety. See
the steam safety section
for further information.
WARNING: Consult
with the coupling manufacturer to make sure you choose the
correct coupling for the application and proper assembly. Read
the coupling section for further
safety information.

Problem 1: This steam hose has been used to transfer some type of oil.
Elastomers used in building a steam hose are generally not highly resistant to oils.
Solution: Because of the danger involved in steam applications, steam hose should
be dedicated for steam and not be used for other applications.
|
|
Problem 2: Deterioration of the hose cover has exposed the reinforcement. The cover compound has hardened and is
cracking an flaking. This could be caused by heat, external chemical exposure, aging or excessive flexing.
Solution: Do not exceed the minimum bend radius of the hose or subject it to external heat or chemicals that attack the cover compound.
|
|
|
Problem 3: Corrosion of the couplings has been caused by aging or incompatibility with external chemicals.
Solution: Make sure the coupling material can handle the external environment.
|
|
Problem 4: Blistering and cracking of the cover material caused by external heat or chemicals.
Solution: Check the external environment that the hose is being used in to determine the correct hose for the
application. (heat, chemicals, gases, etc.)
|
|
|
Problem 5: 'Universal' style couplings/adapters are being used on steam hose. Neither Central States Hose
or the manufacturer recommend this type of coupling for steam service since it is not made for this application.
Solution: Use only 'ground joint' type couplings with interlocking clamps for steam hose interconnections.
