CAUTION:
Important Safety Information!
Choosing the correct coupling device is important for maximum
hose efficiency and safety. Couplings must be applied properly.
Incorrectly or improperly applied couplings can result in shorter
hose life and hose failures. These failures can result in serious
bodily harm or property damage. Hose couplings have been
carefully engineered over the years to meet specific requirements
with large safety margins. Some questions you should answer to
help in choosing the proper coupling for a particular application
include:
- What chemicals, materials, and environments will the
device be exposed to?
- Is it a dangerous, volatile, abrasive, or
corrosive material?
- Is the coupling material compatible with the
media and environment?
- Does the coupling meet regulatory standards
prescribed for this media?
- What pressures and temperatures are involved?
- Is it specifically a high, medium, or low
pressure application?
- Is it for a suction application?
- Are the hose and coupling devices compatible, and
how does the coupling device affect the
assembly's pressure rating?
- What means of connection are required?
- Threaded connections?
- Locking devices or other special safety
requirements?
- Flanged?
When selecting couplings the end-user should inform
Central States Hose of the application and pressures involved when
ordering hose assemblies.
All hose assemblies should be treated with respect as
potential hazards. Worn-out fittings, clamps, or clips should be
checked for on a regular basis.
The shank length of a coupling should be 1-1/2 times the
inside diameter of hose.
